Upon close inspection, it looks a little similar to this Egyptian statue or maybe one of the Bamyan Buddhas in Afghanistan (before) they were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001.

The original pic can be seen at the NASA site, but this is a zoom in on the supposed statue that appears on a cliff face on Mars. There is really an uncanny resemblance to a statue!
