A Russian woman has stunned doctors by giving birth to a giant baby boy. Doctors at the hospital where the baby was born proclaim the baby as the biggest they have ever seen.

The woman, Svetlana Tagantseva, 28 gave birth to a baby boy who weighed 6.75 kilos or 15 pounds and stands at 62 cm tall. Now that’s big!

“He looks like he is six months old already! He can hardly fit into the beds in the newborn department here. Other kids that lie next to him are so tiny in comparison to him,” doctors say smiling.

The baby is Svetlana’s third (large) child. She also has two children who were large at birth.

If you guessed that the baby would have been too large to come out, you’re right – Doctors delivered him via Cesarean section, and they say the baby would have broken the mother’s bones if he were to come out the normal way!

I think the baby might grow up to be a giant…

A six year old girl from China has a bizarre condition which has doctors stumped. Li Xiaoyuan from Fengkai, South China, had a birthmark that has been spreading all over her body, giving her the appearance of a “cat girl.”

A surgeon at Zhaoqing City Dermalogical l Hospital, Guangdong province, said Li Xiaoyuan may have a rare skin disease which makes her moles spread out control, until it affects half her body.

“None of the other children want to play with her, they are calling her cat-girl and are really mean,” said the girl’s father.

Although surgery could have been an option, it is too risky now, said doctors.

Poor girl, hope she gets her condition cured one day.

A 27 year old woman has been giving her 67 year old dad her own breastmilk for the past 6 months. No, her dad is not some wierdo with a fetish; he is suffering from cancer, and both believe that the breastmilk has helped the father in his battle against (terminal) colon cancer. Wow.

The woman, Georgia Browne was breastfeeding her baby, Monty, at that time, and it occured to her that her father, Tim, could also benefit from her breastmilk. Georgia got the idea after she watched a TV documentary in which a man expressed belief that drinking breastmilk helped him in fighting his prostrate cancer.

‘I watched the documentary and thought it was a really mad idea, if it was true,’ she says. ‘I started looking on the net and found research suggesting breastmilk helps kill cancer cells.

‘Finding out I could help was amazing. I could play my small part in helping my dad do something positive for his illness. ‘When I talked to him about it, he thought it was a great idea. He thought: “Why not?”’

So Tim has now been having his daughter’s breastmilk along with his cornflakes every morning, expressed specially for him by Georgia.

‘I’m still feeding Monty so I feed him first, then I fill a bag for my dad. We’ll continue as long as I am breastfeeding,’ says Georgia.

So far, Tim asserts he has felt better and more energetic, and his doctors are also supportive of his unconventional method of treatment. A scan of his cancer also shows a slight improvement.

Might be all those immunoglobulins in the breastmilk that’s working?

Jet lag is a common problem when you’re travelling by plane across different time zones. Your circadian rhythm becomes totally out of joint. Here’s some tips to prevent jet lag or deal with it.

3 days before depature, alternate 2 “feast” days with a “fast” day in between. During the “feast” day, have a high protein-high carb diet, while during the “fast” day, have soups or salads. On flight day, eat lightly and only drink coffee in the morning if you’re flying west, and between 6-9 pm if you’re flying east.

Adjust your sleep time to reflect how many hours you’re crossing over the time zones, days in advance. For example, if flying to a time zone 7 hours ahead, then go to sleep 1 hour earlier each day for 7 days, and vice versa if you’re flying to a destination 7 hours earlier.

If you’re flying east and crossing several time zones, take a morning flight instead of one in the evening. When you arrive at your destination, your body will still be in mid-afternoon, while the local time will be early evening. Have your dinner and be in bed later than the local bedtime. You’ll feel rested the next day.

If you’re flying west, take a late flight in the evening, and stay awake throughout the flight. When you arrive at your destination, go to bed.

Drink a lot of water prior to, and during the flight, but avoid alcohol.

Get as much sunshine as possible after you arrive; this helps readjust your circadian rhythm. Some moderate exercise will ease you into the new time zone.

Hiccups, aren’t they annoying? Especially if they carry on for hours. If your grandmother’s remedies don’t work, you might wanna try one of these:

Lie down. Tilt your head backwards and open your mouth wide.

Eat a slice of lemon saturated with something bitter, like dandelion juice.

Drink a glass of warm water while standing, and burp away (fastest method).

Drink a glass of warm water, and hold down your ears by pressing the flesh in front of the ears (or have someone close your ears for you).

Stand in front of a mirror and take short, shallow breaths. At the same time, insert a cool spoon handle into your mouth to touch the uvula until the hiccups go away.
