The ocean quahog (Arctica islandica) is the longest living animal species currently known to man. In 2006 and 2007, some specimens were caught of the coast of Iceland and they were found to be 400 years old! Well, actually all these ocean animals are very long lived. Even lobsters can live for more than 100 years.

Scientists determined the ocean quahog’s age from counting the rings on its shell, and found it to be something between 405 to 410 years old! This may not be the final record, as there are many ocean quahogs still living deep under the ocean, and besides them, there are also many other species of marine life that may well live many hundreds of years or more, down there.
