Chimp rips off womans face

A chimpanzee, supposely domesticated and tame, attacked a woman and ripped her face off! The 15 year old, 90kg male chimp named Travis was the longtime pet of Sandra Herold, but he went just berserk and started attacking Sandra’s visiting friend Charla Nash.

Police in Stamford released tapes with Sandra’s frantic calls for help, and the chimp’s grunts can be heard in the background, with Sandra pleading, “Hurry, please! He ripped her face off.”

The chimp attacked Nash as Herold, 70, frantically stabbed her beloved pet with a butcher knife and pounded him with a shovel. “He looked at me like, ‘Mom, what did you do?”‘ Herold told NBC’s Today Show in an interview aired on Wednesday. “It was horrific what happened and I had to do what I had to do, but still, I’ll miss him for the rest of my life.”

Nash is still in critical condition with major injuries sustained by her vicious mauling at the hands of the chimp. Chimpanzees are highly unpredictable animals due to their intelligence, but in this case it could be that a drug, Xanax, that Herold gave Travis to calm him down, actually triggered this violent behavior in him.

Travis actually starred in a few TV commercials when he was young, and brushed his teeth with a Water Pik, logged on to a computer to look at photos, and channel-surfed television with the remote control. In the end, police shot him and he died of his wounds. Tragic.
